THE RAFOC ANNUAL GOLF COMPETITION 2018

Its that time of the year again. The Retired Armed Forces Officers’ Club or RAFOC Golf Championship. Held every year since 2009, the golf championship would draw its members to partake this once-a-year event. It has  gone through many transformation in format, mode-of-play and venue. What is being challenged for is the Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Hamid Trophy.

We have participated since its inauguration in 2009. We had our disappointments, frustrations and anger over these years of participating. Some harsh words were exchanged between our convenor and the organisers once. Still we never failed  to show support for RAFOC. A look through our blog’s archives would indicate our involvement. We were champions in 2011

and came in second in 2012. The format was an inter-intake competition.

This type of competition draw out the intake spirit of each intake. Each intake try to outdo each other not only in golfing skills but also in spirit and names through display of attires and organisation. Our Club 12/68 has always stood out. Everybody knows us as an intake that take nothing to chance and strive for each other in the spirit of camaraderie and brotherhood. Its also thanks to our President who would never failed to encourage, goad, contribute to ensure our club is represented every year. Its also through the efforts of Hashim Yahaya, Marzuki Andong (Apai) and Ramli Harun that started the gearing-up for the competition. This included a practise round at the site 2 days before the actual game.

The actual date, 27 Mar 2018 arrived. There were lots of messages in our whatsapp group giving encouragement.to our reps. This is what made our group unique. Everybody vying for each other. We saw the first pic in our 12/68 Golfers channel.

The Chairman of the Organising Committee wrote in our golf channel:
‘Dear 12/68 golfers, just to report to you that we, who represented 12/68 team in RAFOC Golf today just manage to play an average golf onlyπŸ˜„πŸ˜„. The younger intake 34 and 35 became the star of the day  holding the trophy which we once held in 2011πŸ˜’πŸ˜„πŸ˜„. Our star players , IH and GKL were handicapped by the rain and the wet fairway. Only our President and MM were able to sustain with good scores. Nonetheless we did not go back empty handed. Through luck and perseverance staying through out the prize giving ceremony, we manage to secure 3 complementary flights to play golf at Nilai Spring GCC anytime before June....πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜„. We hope to use this facilities to organize one game before GKL go back to Singapore and when JL is  in town.....What do you all say???πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™
Mohd Isa Hassan wrote:
‘My apologies to the rest of the team for a poor performance today...
Can only managed 34 points...πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜›’
But then its only golf.
Sam wrote:
‘Squad, no apologies are necessary. Winning is important. But then again, the camaraderie and participation as 12/68 is held supreme and far more important. Prepare for the next outing. I am proud of Reg 12/68.’
Ahmad Ismail also responded thus:
‘Participation is not all about winning. The esprit de corp is more important. And all the 8 heroes participated in the tournament have made us proud. Congratulations to all Dato President, Dato Chairman of the Organising Committee and the six golfers. Bravo.’
And since some of us managed to get the complimentary game at the venue, its now for the Convenor to set a date for a mini competition amongst ourselves.
Regards to All
