All of us knew this a long time ago. That Mike Marzuki has acquired a 1 ½ acres of land down south. Built a ‘cabin’, plant trees, rear chickens and kept 2 dogs and has been spending most of his time there since 2015.
Julie joined him ‘off and on’ and when he had the front door fixed, Julie’s presence there was more.
To those who recalled, this is the area that we (the Army Wallahs) went through for our YO Tactics Course. Especially the Survival Module. But then the dreaded mangrove swamps have all disappeared and in its place are the oil palm estates.
The day’s programme starting at about 1230 hrs with a Tahlil and Doa Selamat session. At about 1300 hrs the BBQ session took off. Its not BBQ per se but more of a pot luck styles of food with everybody bringing some kind of food.
There were nasi lemak with sambal udang and ikan bilis, mee hoon goring, fruit coctails, with Mike preparing the larger part of the spread of barbequed beef, chicken, fish and prawns. All these prepared over the ‘charcoaled pit’ that was just installed. All these over the newly built ‘BBQ Pit’ that cost him quite a bundle.
It was a happy and relaxed gathering of squadmates. The members were under the rambutan tree
whilst the ladies were under the covered “BBQ Pit” All took turns to get their food and consuming it with gusto.
There were lots of ‘chats’ to the extent that Burn being the .nominated MC had to control each and everyone take their turns. All in good spirit.
Looking through Mike’s Farm, it was fenced all round. Lots of fruit trees. A chicken tottered around with her brood of chicks. Mike’s dogs, Tuah and Blackie were in the enclosure .
The chickens’ barn was next to the dogs kennel. A vehicle stand proud next to the cabin.
It was Mike’s latest addition. A motorised home. With the dogs’ kennel customised in it. As we understand it, Mike intend to travel the length and breadth of Semenanjung in the motor-home with his dogs. He expected to layover near some creeks and rivers, fish, cook and spend time with nature in a relaxed manner. His dogs would be released to explore the wild – so to speak. His sojourn in Australia really got to him, that he has adopted the Aussie’s lifestyle of spending time by the beach or in the outback. Lets hope he is able achieve whatever he set out to do.
We were there till about 1530 hrs and soon headed back north. Most of us were grinning in the cars after having a jolly good time in Nusa Dusun.
Thank You Mike and Julie.
